22 Oct 07 Minutes

Kitty, Troy, Seanne, Gina

Best thing that has happened since our last meeting:

Kitty -  The USDA in Buirns, Or has hired her to do 2 half day programs (on the same day) for her biggest fee so far!!  Also pending is another government gig in Burns, OR - she's working on it and we are sure she will do her very best!  Way to go Kitty!

Troy - Went to see Elton John in LV all by himself - he said the music was wonderful - the visuals left a little to be desired.  He also stayed at the Alexis Park Hotel - where we will be holding our Retreat in December - and said he liked the room and the staff was friendly and helpful.  We are looking forward to this time we will all spend together - so thanks, Troy, for thinking of staying there to check it out for us!

Seanne - Her dad was in town and he brought 6 photo albums from Seanne's grandmother - who passed away when Seanne was one year old.  Seanne's grandpa was in the military and traveled all over the world - so these pictures are very special to Seanne.  Bruce (Seanne's dad) left the albums with Seanne and we know they will be a great source of comfort and happiness for her.

Gina - We had Thanksgiving dinner at our house on Sunday night and Tom's co-pilot - Mike brought his girlfriend Shawnee along.  She is a really positive and energetic lady and it is always fun for me to get to know new wonderful people!  By the way - Shawnee is pregnant and is due in February - so, I'll get to know yet another wonderful person!!

We spent time discussing the Retreat and here's a recap:

Barb, Seanne, Karen and Doug H. are flying in and out of LAX - they arrive at 4:30 (LV) on Friday afternoon and depart on Sunday at 6:30 p.m.
Jim arrives into LV at around 8:30 p.m. we don't have his return info - as he was unable to be on this call
Gina will already be in LV - and will finish working and be at the hotel by 7:00 p.m. I haven't booked my return flight yet.

We don't have info for Kitty, Doug L. or Troy yet.

Troy, Barb and Seanne will shop for food and other supplies and pick up dinner for Fri. p.m. when they arrive.  We are thinking PF Changs at our hotel.

Breakfasts and lunch for Saturday - we are talking about fruit, cheese, crackers, sliced deli meat and anything else anyone wants.

For our 'Come as you will be' party on Saturday night - we are checking to see if Tony Roma's delivers.

We are asking that everyone contributes a certain amount of money for the food, supplies and wine for the weekend and we talked about the $50.00 a piece range.  If there is anything special anyone wants let us know at the date gets closer and we'll put it on the list.

Troy suggested that I take another look at the suite at Alexis Park and compare it to the 'Crown' suite - that may save me and Kitty some money and still be plenty big to host all of our indoor events.  I'll do that on my next trip to LV - next week.

Also, for the 'Come as you will be' party - we are suggesting that anyone dress up in the appropriate clothes for 'what/where you will be' and do some research with regard to details.  Let's discuss this more in our next meeting.

We also talked about new 60 day goals:

Kitty:  Evolve my business from a traiing company to a consulting company so that she can get longer term and larger contracts and not have to work so hard to get those occasional big gigs.
Her specific actions she will be taking:

Create a web presence with a consultative focus
Establish relationships with at least 15 potential contacts
Let the clients in my database know of this shift in business focus, and ask for referrals
Deliver at least one comp teleseminar and advertise that to all clients in gov't agencies and their contacts

Gina:  Put together a draft business plan for my fitness business, 'Fit for Good' by 12/20/07.  Among other things, this will include:

Getting my certifications
Timelines
Budgets
My values and mission and (possibly) vision stmt.
Checking out my competition
Deciding how I will begin to target my clients
Figuring out how I will structure this - ex:  seeing clients in person, supporting them on line with newsletters - setting up accountability processes

Seanne:  With so much going on and the extraordinary demands she has on her right now - she is working very hard to finish this year still 'being Seanne' - PS - the fun, supportive, creative Seanne that we all know and love!

Troy:  His long term goal is to leave his county job by 2009 - to be so successful in his other businesses that he won't need the money from this job anymore!

Also, his previous 60 day goal was to 'be OK with me'.  His solo trip to LV to see Elton John gave him the further insight that he wants to be going and doing what HE wants to do.  For example:  Going to NYC at Christmas and going to Italy in October of next year.  In the past, he said, if he couldn't find anyone to go with him he just wouldn't go - from now on - if no one wants to go with him - he's going to go and do it anyway!!

Doug Leal emailed and told us that the excitement of the terrible wildfires near his house distracted him from our phone call.  Doug we are all with you in our hearts and hope you and your family continue to be safe.

Barb was unable to be on our call due to being evacuated from her home on Sunday night - Barb we love you very much and you know that - just as you relied on Seanne for a place to stay - you can count on all of us to do what ever it takes to make sure we are all safe and happy.

Jim is on a great vacation with his family - a once in a lifetime opportunity - we can hardly wait to hear about it at our next meeting.

OUR NEXT MEETING WILL BE HELD ON NOVEMBER 7, 2007.

Doug and Karen - what you get when you miss a meeting is that we open YOUR house to anyone who wants to attend the meeting!  :-)  Actually, there was a discussion about the pour quality of communication due to the speaker phone we are using at my (Gina's) house and Seanne is going to connect her SKYPE to her computer and we are going to see if that will be any better.  Apparently, this connection can't be made from inside my (Gina's) house.

HOMEWORK:

Be aware of opportunitiers of things we can do to get to our goals - lookin at resources that are all around us - jot down several examples of these and share them at the next meeting.  (for example:  I was watching Good Morning America this morning and there was an article about on line businesses - part of my exercise business will be on line - and that you can get ads from Google and they will pay you for each hit - great way to make $$ with my business!)

Also, consider how we can help each other with resources to get to our goals - jot down those resources and again we'll share them at our next meeting

Also, let's start firming up our travel plans for the Retreat and figure out any special requests for eats

At the next meeting - let's also discuss how we can prepare for the 'Come as you will be' party to get maximum inspiration, fun and learning from it!

WANT Meeting Minutes 10-10-07

W.A.N.T. Meeting Minutes
October 10, 2007

Present:          Gina, Barb, Seanne, Karen, Doug H., Doug L., Kitty

I.                WANT Group Hello

The best thing that happened to each of us since last we met:  Doug L empowered his staff—they all wrote and presented a summary of their jobs over the last month.  Some did better than others but they all realized they need each other to succeed.
Gina reconnected with a friend of 31 years that she hasn't seen in 8 years!  Seanne made plans to support her friend in the MS bike ride.  She was afraid it would conflict with her mother's treatment and it did not J  Kitty is in the process of closing two new contracts and last Sunday she decided she would make $1,000 in the next week and had accomplished this goal within 45 minutes.  Karen has admired the ability of a colleague to plan her vacations well in advance.  Taking this lead Karen is planning her first ski trip to Mammoth in November.  Doug H did a good deed—his team has been working very hard on a project and they were "attacked" via email by a supervisor.  Doug provided additional information and defended his team.  The result was a happy team and an apology from the "attacker."  Barb connected with a dear friend who is feeling blue.  She was able to secure a ticket using air miles (a real trick these days) and the friend will be visiting from Colorado soon.   Great job everyone!

II.              Our 60 Day Goals

1.     How are you progressing toward your goal?
2.     What lessons have you learned in the process?
3.     What did you do right?
4.     What can you change or do better in the future?
5.     What WANTS, if any, have you changed or added during this process?

Gina didn't meet her specific financial goals though she learned a great deal over the last 60 days.  She has boosted her self-esteem through her ability to say "no."  She realized she doesn't have to ask permission to feel good about this.  "This was ten times better than achieving the goal."

Barb found that on some days she had achieved the goal of the 3 Ps and on other days experienced setbacks.  In order to know that you have achieved a goal, it must be specific and measurable.  Some goals are ongoing and one must remember to focus on what you have control over and let go of what you don't.  We control how we react and respond to external stimuli.

Doug L achieved most of his goal.  The 401(k) plan is prepared but cannot begin until January 1, 2008.  The health insurance program was offered to employees with little participation.  Doug learned from his employees and will go back to the drawing board to make the program more attractive.  He delegated the arrangement of the programs to his new HR representative who did an outstanding job.  Doug learned that through delegation he could accomplish a great deal without losing time for his other work.

Doug H learned that outside influences can create a roadblock to reaching your goal.  He achieved two-thirds of his intended weight-loss goal and people are noticing!  The biggest challenge for Doug has been that changing his lunching habits goes against his "inner host."

Karen had planned to finish the remodel project on her bedroom.  Though the room is not complete she and Doug have made great progress.  They are no longer looking at insulation; they have walls!  She said they have made more progress in the last 60 days than they have in the last five years.

Kitty realized that while she cannot control how fast her potential clients make decisions, she can control how many contacts she makes.  If she focuses on this quantity, the additional business will come her way.

Seanne has made it "back to me!"  She has learned to control her need to control; meaning that she has come face-to-face with the challenge of not being able to control her schedule and commitments all the time.  She is learning to accept this and is making peace with it under the current circumstances.

It looks like all of us made great progress toward our WANTs and have learned a number of lessons in the process.

III.            Next Meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for:
Monday, October 22 at 7:30 p.m.

For the Next Meeting:  Take a look at one of your long-term goals and consider short-term goals to achieve along the way.  You may "mesh" your 60-day WANT into a long-term WANT.  These short-term goals can help us to maintain the excitement as we approach our long-term goal.

Meeting Minutes from October 3, 2007

W.A.N.T. Meeting Minutes
October 3, 2007

Present: Gina, Barb, Seanne, Karen, Doug H., Doug L., Jim

I. WANT Group Hello

The best thing that happened to each of us since last we met: Doug L got his Arizona Contractor's License with Nevada not far behind; Barb laid out a plan for getting her next home in CA and eventually CO; Gina dreamed all about the WANT club and saw it as a "blond, blue-eyed, laughing child" with a great future; Karen reconnected with old friends at a Jimmy Buffet concert and set a new goal of maintaining relationships, she also met with a financial planner; Seanne talked to us through a new microphone on her computer using SKYPE, this is all set for our use in Las Vegas!; Jim is the project manager for a mobile CAD system and the $1.5 million project has gone live; Doug H reconnected with a dear friend and is also on track to have the best month (financially) in his 9 years at his job. Victories and congrats to all!

II. 25 Wants

What did we learn in the process of listing 25 Wants?

Jim felt his Wants might be "outlandish," yet when he began listing them no less than three people jumped in with ideas on how to help. Some of Jim's wants – deep sea fishing, acting as Troy's assistant when he becomes wealthy and travels, meet Joseph Wambaugh.

Doug L. had over 100 items on his list and found it challenging to limit it to just 25. Some of Doug's wants – drive the Chilean coastline, own a property management company, in 15 years have $15 million in savings, build a lake, and open a nursery in Mexico. Doug stated that in the past we have chosen to want things that we could touch. This process allows us to dream bigger and out further. Thinking big, we believe it and put energy into it—we can reach beyond what we can touch right now!

Doug H discovered that he likes nice things and likes to travel as many of his wants focused in these areas. He wants to have the financial stability to do what he wants. Some of Doug's wants – Safari in Africa, ride dog sleds to the Ice Hotel in Sweden, have a second home in Mammoth, and get his private pilot's license.

Karen found that her list was quite realistic and decided to list more wants that were "out there." A new one that came to mind was to own "Our Place" (the house that she and Doug admire when they cruise Newport Harbor).

Gina admitted "feeling such energy on this call, anticipating actual possibilities turning into realities." She is finding a balance between here 60 day goals and getting excited about wants that are further out in the future. For her, this process made her wants "touchable, attainable, and real." Some of her wants include becoming a fitness trainer and nutrition advisor catering to folks over 50. She has already made progress in this area that was just a vision 6 months ago.

Seanne realized that "the older I get, the more I realize I don't want to make the mistake of waiting for retirement to do the things I want." Travel is high on her list and she wants to experience as she travels, for example riding a camel, shearing sheep in Australia, visiting the Pyramids in Egypt.

In the process of making the list Barb found that it would be a continual process of adding things and checking things off. The theme of travel carried here, but here a few other Barb wants – "dance at my wedding, see a Broadway show on Broadway."

This is what we are in this group for! We are all positive and excited about our wants. The desire for travel and adventure appears to be a theme throughout.

III. Next Meeting

Our next meeting is scheduled for:
Wednesday, October 10 at 7:30 p.m.

HOMEWORK: As we approach our 60-day goals be prepared to discuss the following:

1. How are you progressing toward your goal?
2. What lessons have you learned in the process?
3. What did you do right?
4. What can you change or do better in the future?
5. What WANTS, if any, have you changed or added during this process?
