Meeting:
We talked about the closed eye process that we did last meeting which led to the topic of limiting beliefs and how to recognize and vanquish them. The first step is to notice the negative belief and to realize that they can co-exist with any dreams and goals that you might have.
Question for the group:
What were the negative beliefs you have encountered in your life and how did you overcome them? What were the results? How did you feel about yourself after?
His brain said that it could not be done, but he also had the additional pressure of not wanting to be the only one who chickened out. He knew that if he did the walk he would feel good about himself and his accomplishment and if he didn't do it he would feel regret for the rest of his life. He put aside his fears and was exhilarated in accomplishing what he had earlier thought was an almost impossible feat! (editors note: what if the group was going to jump off a cliff? Do you just go along because everyone else is and plunge to your death? Be wary of groups of people who convince you to drink kool aid and take a nap)
Seanne told a story about how she had lost her job (because the business closed) and was unsure of what real job skills she possessed. She spent every day reading the job ads and sending out resumes to anyone and everyone. Any ad that mentioned something that she had every done, and in some cases ever thought of doing, were sent a resume. And that, my good friends, is how she ended up with the City of
Gina made the comment that there are 2 reasons for change…..to avoid pain and to seek pleasure.
Processes:
There are 2 processes that we are to do before the next meeting and they are available for download from the WANT club website. The purpose of these exercises is threefold 1) realizing what your wants truly are 2) having believable and achievable dreams 3) be able to get your arms around your wants to see how they can be made into reality.
NASA – think of a want (or several) and ask yourself the following questions to see if it is achievable or not
1. what is the best thing that could happen?
2. what is the worst thing that could happen?
3. what is the best thing that could happen if you don't do it?
4. what is the worst thing that could happen if you don't do it?
And Then What?
This is to help guide you to purpose and to really dig into what we want, eliminate surface wants and getting to the heart of the want (if you want a heart then that's a whole other process)
Get together in pairs and take turns telling each other what you want. When one person states their want the other says "and then what?" This goes on and on until you have a firm, achievable want that you believe in! You will also realize that your fears are not as scary as they once were.
Random notes:
Gina told a cute story about conquering red haired giants
Seanne told a fascinating story involving cadaver dogs
Barb says that she has one major want – To have no limiting thoughts (wow!.....that's a great one.)
Closing thoughts –
always remember to spay and neuter your pets - Bob Barker
